Thursday Live Organ Recital Series
In July 2008 a series of organ recitals will be launched at St Paul's.
These will take place on the first Thursday of every month at 1.15pm.

The Organ

St Paul's Church is preparing to launch a major organ appeal, since the organ now requires much drastic and very expensive work. Although it may currently sound fine, mainly due to some fine unaltered Bishop pipework (dating from around 1830) the poorly conceived mechanics are in a bad state of repair making the organ increasingly unreliable. The soundboards are also in a poor condition. Much of the other pipework is of poor quality and showing signs of collapse. As the restoration of the majority of the existing instrument is therefore neither artistically nor economically viable, it is intended to replace it with a new one, incorporating the existing historic pipework.

The Choir

St Paul's has an adult choir of around twelve members who sing at the 6.30pm service each Sunday, which follows the 5.30pm rehearsal. The one-visit-per-week commitment makes it ideal for those who would find committing to a weeknight rehearsal difficult. New members are always welcome and we are particularly looking to increase the soprano line at present. The ability to sight sing is not essential, but does help as rehearsal time is limited. St Paul's has a fine acoustic in which it is a real joy to sing.
